Handbag too heavy? Try this simple solution!

What's in your handbag?

Just enough room for life’s essentials

Women like the feeling of being prepared: knowing you’ve got something in your bag to cover any minor crisis. You’ve got your lip-gloss, your Band-Aids, your little bottle of hand sanitiser…you can take on the world.

But there are big issues with carrying your whole life over your shoulder.

You can never find your keys amongst the flotsam and jetsam. Or your might have to carry your handbag on one shoulder, a nappy bag on the other and a baby on your hip! It’s all too hard. Don’t wait until you need chiropractic intervention. Just carry a smaller bag.

I carried this bag for years. It’s tiny, with only enough room for a wallet, a slimline diary, a sample size moisturiser and mobile phone. The pockets are on the outside, so I could carry small items in them and have more room in the main compartment. Best of all, this bag has a long strap so I could wear it messenger-style and be hands-free.

What's in your handbag?

I upgraded to this bag because I wanted just a little bit more room

It was easy to find my keys, or my phone when it rang. It never got too heavy because I had to be very disciplined about what I could take in it. And with the long strap I could carry it always; I never had to put it down and risk leaving it behind somewhere.

Handbag-wise, things changed for me when I discovered GTD, but that’s a post for another day!

  1. Living in France it’s common for men to use shoulder bags (Man bags!) so as a Brit I wanted to ‘fit in with local customs’ fairly quickly! So I use a variety of shoulder bags, they vary in size and I pick out the appropriate bag for what I need to carry. I hate carrying a big bag with hardly anything in it!

There’s a few posts about my bags on this blog: http://bagsey.blogspot.fr/

    • Actually Steve, when I first bought this bag I couldn’t wait to show it off to everyone because I thought it was so cute. But someone said, “oh that looks like my dad’s Man bag”!

  2. I started doing this about a year ago when my right shoulder always seemed stiff. I got a tiny, bright orange leather flower handbag to wear cross-body. Instead of a wallet, I kept my cash in the small outer zipped compartment at the back and all the cards I needed in the inside pocket. Mobile phone (with my life in it!), a simple lipsalve, nailfile and keys… As that got a bit shabby, I searched for a long time then found a tan leather mini satchel that needs a different approach. Now I have a small coin purse for cash and a dedicated card wallet that slot in neatly, add keys, lipsalve etc. and good to go! My shoulders are now fine and big handbags are banished.
